RigMo News
Rigor Takes 3rd at Solstice
Omaha had a great weekend in Tulsa as usual, going undefeated before falling to Kansas City in the Semi's. Thanks to Terrell and the Oklahoma crew for putting on an unparallelled ultimate tournament, definitely the best in the Midwest and our favorite. In 4 years at Solstice, RigMo has improved its finish every year, and this year we finally got some brisket. Can't wait for 2011 and the finals, finally...
Gnarwhal Repeats at BitB3
Congratulations to Gnarwhal, who defeated Silage 15-9 for their 2nd straight BitB title. We had a fun weekend at this year's "Battle at Memorial" despite being removed from our usual fields due to soggy conditions and using a backup format. Partial refund checks for prorated bids are in the mail. Congrats also to Silage, who completed an epic 7-1 comeback run in the semis to defeat Rigor Mortis in a heartbreaker for us, 15-12. The Strangers from Golden, CO were impressive, as was their 18 hour round trip voyage to Omaha, CB, and back. We had a great time once again at the Spillway, and the free food and beer were once again fabulous. Thanks to all teams for participating and supporting nonprofit ultimate organizations like our own. We appreciate it.
Special thanks to Diane and Rachael Green, who once again showed us wonderful hospitality in Treynor, IA. Dennis Hopp again came through, providing massage therapy and generally helping out in any way he could. Thanks to Anthony Roberts of the Lincoln Journal-Star, friend and ultimate player, who captured the entire weekend on high quality video. We will be posting that as soon as we finish production with it, and teams can expect DVDs in the mail of their games that were filmed.
We are looking forward to a fun BitB4 - expect the best tournament in the area. See you around the Midwest.

RigMo Takes 2nd at Mayfest
Nebraska Ultimate enjoyed a successful weekend in Kansas City, bringing two tryout teams - Rigor X and Rigor Y. Fatal Attraction also had a good weekend, and we represented in both divisions and all pools. We had plenty of talent from Omaha, Lincoln, Des Moines, and beyond looking to get the season started the right way. On Saturday, no one could stop Nebraska as both Rigor squads went a combined 8-0, in the process taking down several regional rivals. Sentinel, the new club team from STL, was also running two X/Y tryout teams, and would prove to be our toughest opponents all weekend.
On Sunday morning, Rigor Y came out flat and had a disappointing finish, but overall had a great weekend, with several intense comeback victories. Rigor X came back to defeat Arkansas, finished pool play 5-0 and took care of Tulsa in the Quarters, leading to a matchup with Sentinel X in the Semis, with Sentinel Y waiting in the Finals.
The Semis was intense, and we seemed on the verge of going home, down 7-11. Starting with Greg Suhr's huge layout D and bookend score, we fought our way back to 10-12, then 12-12, pulling upwind on universe point. Once St. Louis turned the disc over, there was no doubt that we were going to finish the job, and a big upwind huck to Scott Frohn and Elliott Hanson ended it, with both players coming down with the disc, a really badass simultaneous catch.
In the Finals, Rigor and Sentinel traded points most of the first half, with Sentinel capitalizing for a one break lead at 5-7. In the second half, Rigor just couldn't quite make the push like in earlier games, holding strong but falling 10-13. Overall, it was a great weekend, and we were pleased with everyone who tried out and gave us a shot. It looks to be a pretty promising year thus far, so get ready for Battle in the Bluffs and Solstice in June.

Nebraskionals
Bandits Inaugural Champions

Barefoot Bandits
The first ever Nebraska High School ultimate championship was this Saturday, May 15th. Congratulations to the Barefoot Bandits of Central and Prep, who won both their games Saturday to become the inaugural Nebraskionals champions! Good job fellas, it was an exciting and enjoyable day for all of us out there.
In the first game, Lincoln Pius X shocked everyone by going up 12-9 on top-seeded Sweet Justice of Westside. Justice tied the game with three straight but fell on universe point. Given the tourney format though, SJ still had a chance if the Bandits could beat Lincoln Pius X and Justice beat the Bandits. The first half of that came true, with Bandits taking down Pius 13-10. In what was basically then the Finals, Justice opened up a 10-7 lead and had the tournament within reach, but the Bandits rattled off 6 straight points to end the day and win Nebraskionals. Kudos to Lincoln Pius X for making the trip with 8 players and almost pulling off a major upset!
Results:
Lincoln Pius X 13, Sweet Justice 12
Bandits 13, Lincoln Pius X 10
Bandits 13, Sweet Justice 10
Stay tuned for more news on the youth scene, including Battle in the Bluffs III and YCC. Special thanks to LUDA and Seth Colaner for all the work put in to make Nebraskionals happen.

Midland Lutheran Tournament
Thanks to Midland Lutheran College's Warrior DISCiples for hosting yesterday's awesome round-robin tourney. Phil Hartwig and the rest of the MLC crew put on a great event and showed us all a good time. Although we had the most injuries in a single outing in team history, and although Jenny almost destroyed the cotton candy supply by herself, things went smoothly for Midland's first ever ultimate event. We hope there will be more to come.
Rigor Mortis supports the development of the local ultimate community at all levels, and we hope you will continue to support the Warrior DISCiples as well. More info about Midland Lutheran can be found here.

Barefoot Bandits - New Team Forms
The newest addition to the Nebraska club ultimate scene are the Barefoot Bandits from the Sunks in Dundee. Composed of local high school and college players, The Barefoot Bandits posted an impressive first showing at Sunday's MLC tournament, beating the Warrior DISCiples and taking the Lincoln team to universe point, while scoring plenty of points against FatC and Omaha/RigMo.
