A Brief History of Rigor Mortis and Nebraska Club Ultimate
by Tim Hoarty
Death Frisbee - Original Nebraska Disc
The first known Nebraska club team was DEATH FRISBEE - a group of med students from UNMC in the 1970's who practiced at Norris Junior High.
They played hard and partied hard.
"We're not a team, we're a gang."
The 2009 Rigor Mortis jerseys are dedicated to Death frisbee.
Post Mortem - The 90's
Post Mortem, which literally means "after death" formed sometime in the late 80's or early 90's. More to come.
Rigor Mortis - Est. 2007
In summer of 2006 and spring of 2007 a group of pickup players sick of traveling savage to Mayfest, Solstice, and Harvest Moon every year decided to form an organized team. Our first tournament together was Mayfest of 2007, as Omaha Bin Laden, which was the team that became what we are today. In the grisly tradition of Nebraska club ultimate, our team is called Rigor Mortis, the third generation of Disc here in Nebraska since the inception of Ultimate. We take pride in our forgotten state and we are proud to wear NEBRASKA across our backs. Rigor Mortis comes from a unique ultimate tradition - since ultimate is huge on the coasts and slow to catch on in the midwest, we have had to learn ultimate the only way we could - from square one, from scratch, on the concrete fields of Memorial Park. We have our own unique style of play that you won't see anywhere else, and we have come a long way since 2007. 2010 is shaping up to be our best year yet, with more dedication and commitment to improvement and advancing towards our goal of a Central Regional berth in the UPA Club Series next fall.
